How Often Should Children Visit the Dentist?

Start early — earlier than you think

We recommend a child's first dental visit by around age 2–3, or even earlier if you notice anything unusual. The first visit is short and friendly: a ride in the chair, a quick look, and a chance for your child to learn that the dental clinic is a safe, kind place — not somewhere to fear.

Starting early pays off for years. Children who visit before any problem arises almost never develop dental fear, because they've never had a painful first experience.

How often after that

Every 6 months, just like adults. Children's teeth change quickly — new teeth arrive, habits form, and small cavities can grow fast in softer baby enamel. Six months lets us catch anything early, apply fluoride or sealants where helpful, and keep visits short and easy.

Come sooner if you notice: brown or white spots on teeth, bleeding gums, mouth breathing, thumb sucking past age 4, or any complaint of pain.

Making visits easy for your child

Book a morning slot when children are fresh, talk about the visit positively at home ('we're going to get your teeth counted!'), and never use the dentist as a threat. Bring a favourite toy for comfort. Our team is experienced with young patients and goes entirely at your child's pace.
